A serious page. All of us against poverty and suffering, not against each other.
The Madgette is a one-page daily, edited for one reader and published for anyone who wants the same thing: serious reading, chosen on purpose.
The line it holds is simple. Finance and economics that explain a mechanism rather than report a tick. Politics seen through one lens: a two-party system manufactures extremes, by design or by neglect, unless democracy is carefully tended. The page starts from the premise that us-against-them is not the natural state of a country. The real contest is all of us against poverty and human suffering, and the writing that advances that contest, from any part of the spectrum, earns a place here.
What does not: outrage bait, horse-race coverage, celebrity, hot takes, cheerleading from any side, and anything whose value is in being first rather than right.
Every morning the page reads the full feeds of several dozen publications, from the New York Review of Books to City Journal to the Minnesota Reformer. An editor model reads every candidate against the brief above and keeps the few dozen that clear it, with one line saying why. Nothing on the page is written by the page; every headline links to the original publisher. Past editions are kept in the archive.
